Are you ready for an elephantastic time?
A very special herd of elephants will be arriving in Bridport, West Bay, and Lyme Regis on 28th March, 2025 for eight weeks!
The area will be transformed into vibrant, fun, and free art trail that local families and visitors will never forget. Thirty striking and colourful elephants will be waiting to be discovered, each designed and painted by talented artists. The trail will conclude with each sculpture being auctioned for charity. Baby elephants will also be finding their way into local schools and learning venues, which will become their forever home.
Stampede by the Sea is raising funds for Weldmar Hospicecare, who provide specialist end of life care for local adults with a life limiting illness, and support for their loved ones.

HOW THE HERD WILL HELP
Last year, 247 people received care from Weldmar Hospicecare in Bridport, West Bay, Lyme Regis and the surrounding area, and more than 1,500 in total across Dorset.
Weldmar’s compassionate approach treats every person as an individual, and their team includes nurses, doctors, carers, therapists, counsellors, social workers and more, who are there during every step of one of life’s most difficult journeys.
All of Weldmar’s care is provided for free. Stampede by the Sea will not only help raise vital funds to continue these services, but increase the awareness of how they help – a subject which is often ‘the elephant in the room’.

Many of our amazing partners and sponsors have effectively paid for a whole day of care at Weldmar Hospicecare`s Inpatient Unit in Dorchester. Patients can received more sustained care from the charity`s team of doctors, nurses, carers, therapists, and more.
Foundry Lea will be a new sustainable neighbourhood at Vearse Farm, on the western fringe of Bridport. The vision is to deliver up to 760 homes, a primary school, employment space, local retail and community facilities, as well as accessible open space.
Green space and sustainability are paramount in the masterplan for Foundry Lea, with generous green infrastructure, a network of pedestrian and cycle links, and the use of sustainably sourced and managed materials.

This seems like a strange request, but we`re in need of some artificial grass to make our elephants more comfortable!
Our magnificent sculptures will be stood proudly on plinths throughout the trail, and we`re short on artificial grass to cover them all.
There are eleven left to cover, measuring 1600mm by 1000mm. Is there a generous company or individual who would be happy to help out? You`d be directly supporting Weldmar Hospicecare! Please DM if you can help ๐

The Jurassic Coaster will provide an easy, environmentally sustainable way to travel between Bridport, West Bay and Lyme Regis to see all of our amazing elephant sculptures! Going by bus will make it even more of an adventure – and you don`t need to worry about finding a parking space!
By becoming our Transport Partner, First Bus will essentially be funding the running of @weldmarhospicecare`s Inpatient Unit for an entire day, ensuring that patients in their care receive more sustained care from their end of life care specialists when it is needed the most – and loved ones are looked after, too.

Dorwest Herbs is a third generation family business, established in 1948. They produce a range of herbal and dietary supplements for dogs and cats. Director Jo Broughton-White told us, "We`re just so thrilled to be a part of Stampede by the Sea, and the lovely thing about this event is that it touches people on so many levels. It`s bringing together local communities, business, and schools. It`s breaking down the boundaries of `the `elephant in the room`, so we`re really pleased to be involved.
Appropriately, the sculpture Dorwest have sponsored is called `Herbie`, painted by Rachael and Phillippa Corcutt. We can`t wait to reveal this incredible design and see it out on the trail from 28th March!

Stampede by the Sea is raising funds and awareness for Weldmar Hospicecare, and weโre looking for individuals to be part of our special team of volunteers ๐
The volunteer roles are:
๐ TRAIL HERD HERO
You will help to maintain and clean the elephants, and report any problems or damage. Youโll also need to answer questions about the trail or Weldmar Hospicecare, or direct people on where to find the answers they need on the app or website. Shifts will be from 10-12 and 1-3 daily, and you will be working in pairs.
๐ POP UP SHOP VOLUNTEER
Based at the Salt House in West Bay, the pop-up shop will be open from 10-4pm each day. Your responsibilities will include handling cash and using a till, presenting and handling stock, greeting the public, selling maps and merchandise, and representing Weldmar Hospicecare. You will be working alongside a member of Weldmar staff.
๐ FAREWELL AND AUCTION SUPPORT
Following the trail, we will have our Farewell Event and Auction at the Corn Exchange in Dorchester. We would love to continue working with you at these events if you are interested. They take place between 14th and 19th June.
