The children were introduced to their elephant in whole school worship and we had a suggestion box for the children to anonymously add their name suggestions. The winner was chosen on a clapping vote! The design was a combination of children’s ideas that were then simplified and drawn onto Burt. Our EYFS and KS1 children painted the backgrounds and our KS2 children added the details. Everyone had a hand in his creation which was a vital element for us. We wanted Burt to represent our school community where we celebrate difference and individuality, and the local landscape that plays such a big part in the children’s school experience. Finally, our school emblem was added to his head like a crest and his trunk has our school vision statement ‘Do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with God’ to highlight the importance of our Christian values and their impact upon our school ethos.
