Being a part of Stampede by the Sea has been incredibly meaningful for our pupils, their families, and the wider community. It’s has provided a unique opportunity for creative expression whilst talking about death which can be difficult for anyone, let alone young people. The project has allowed us to strengthen our relationships with local businesses and the school community who have contributed financially. The design stems from the children wanting to link our elephant to the ‘sea’ theme. When discussing grief and how it feels, one of the children explained it as giant drops, this is where the big tear drops came from. Each child then used a memory to fill their space. Hidden amongst the seaweed there are sea creatures that are made up from the children’s finger and thumb prints – can you find them?
