We held a competition, won by Oscar in Year 3, whose design was slightly adapted to form the main design for Asha. Our school values, known as the ‘Bincombe Bees’ (Be Happy, Be Respectful, Be Individual, Be Determined, Be Helpful, and Be Honest) inspired many of the children’s designs. We asked every child in the school to add their fingerprint to the elephant, and each fingerprint was transformed into a bee, ensuring that every child contributed to Asha. Choosing a name was a delightful challenge with many creative suggestions. Ultimately, the children chose Asha, which means ‘life.’ The Stampede by the Sea project has truly captured the children’s imaginations and sparked meaningful conversations about the work of Weldmar Hospicecare, which has been particularly poignant for several families in our community.
