The Prince of Wales School is a fully inclusive Mainstream First School with a wide range of experience of successfully meeting the needs of children with significant barriers to their learning. We have a resourced provision for children with physical disabilities, mainly cerebral palsy. Piper was painted by pupils to represent and celebrate the spirit of neurodiversity, self-esteem and confidence in girls. Despite growing understanding, 80% of girls with neuro-diversities remain undiagnosed beyond the age of eighteen which can lead to difficulties with self-esteem and mental health. 61% of girls under the age of eighteen have reported low self-esteem and confidence. During the painting process participants reflected on the positive experiences of creativity and empowerment, it is hoped that this will lead to an increase in self-esteem for those involved and promote discussion and awareness for this important issue. As one participant reflected… “Girl Power”.
